Every cloud...

...has a silver lining! Our bad weather programme.

Bad weather, bad mood? Not at the Sommerhof! Even if the summer in Gosau doesn't play along and storm clouds appear on the horizon: There is no shortage of adventure ideas. There is plenty to see, hear and taste for the whole family close by. A day at the thermal baths? A visit to the salt mines? A museums visit in the Mozart-City Salzburg? Or perhaps some coffee and cake in the Imperial City Bad Ischl? Let our tips inspire you.

Abarena all-weather amusement park

This is THE AMUSEMENT PARK for all kids (and kids at heart)! What do you want to do first? Down the tube slide from a height of 14 meters? Let off steam at the water playground and really splash around? Get through the climbing park like a secret agent? Or would you rather dig for precious stones in the crystal mine? These are just a few of the many great indoor and outdoor adventure options!

Salt worlds

Deep in the mountain...

The Dachstein normally sees visitors climbing to the summit, but in the Salzkammergut, adventures also await deep down beneath the mountains. In the Hallstatt and Altaussee salt worlds you can speed towards the centre of the Earth on the exciting wooden slide, sail across the salt lake and listen carefully to the mining legends. A bad-weather day can be so exciting!

Koppenbrüller Cave

A world of roaring water!

You can't see it at the Krippenstein, but you can hear it. After a short walk along the Koppentraun river you reach the youngest of the three Dachstein caves with its underground waterways. The river roars through the canyon like a roaring animal after heavy rain or when the snow melts. There are also ancient stalactites to marvel at in the cave.

Dachstein Krippenstein Adventure-Mountain

Have you ever heard of the Ice Cave? Or the mammoth cave? The Dachstein Krippenstein is a real adventure mountain and inspires young and old. The two caves are suitable for all ages. But beware, better wrap up warm, because the temperatures in the caves are around 0° degrees. But it pays off, because you don't come across an attraction like this that often. If the weather get's warmer for a moment, you should definitely go up to the Krippenstein and visit the 5Fingers viewing platform.

Haus der Natur

Amazing Salzburg

Enormous dinosaurs. Dazzling underwater worlds. Mysterious lunar landscapes. The Haus der Natur in Salzburg is full of wonders. The adventure world with aquarium, reptile zoo, science centre for physics and technology and various exhibitions is always worth a visit. And if you are already in the city of Mozart, you can also follow in the footsteps of the child prodigy...

Toy museum

The toy museum is not a "normal" museum, it is a play paradise for children. Thanks to the different exhibitions, it never gets boring. From playing to experiencing to being amazed, everything is included. The best? Even the little ones get will have a great time. The museum is also specialed in playing zones for babies, who can explore a lot of great things while crawling. You should not miss this experience on a trip to Salzburg. Your children will be very happy!

Fun at the thermal baths

Water meets warmth

What could be nicer in rainy weather than retreating into the warmth? The Salzkammergut has lots of mineral-rich water and therefore many thermal baths. Whether Grimming Therme, Narzissenbad or Eurotherme Bad Ischl, there are many oases of well-being close to the Sommerhof. If you prefer to look for a fun pool for families, then head to Therme Amadé. Our top tip for romantic hours is the Wellness Alm in St. Wolfgang, which combines the comfort of a rustic alpine hut with a modern wellness facility. Don't forget to check the occupancy before visiting. You can find it on the websites of the spas.

Upper Lake Gosau

Everyone knows Lake Gosau, it is the ultimate photo point. But not everyone knows that there is also an upper Lake Gosau. This is a special natural jewel. It can only be reached by hiking. The way to the upper lake Gosau is our favorite walk when it rains. Because the almost 6 kilometers and 200 meters in altitude can be mastered in less than 2 hours and the path is strewn with pebbles, so there is hardly any risk of mud or slipping.

Hallstatt

The World Heritage Site

When does a place deserve the title of "UNESCO World Heritage Site"? For example, when it is called Hallstatt and is bursting with cultural treats. Stroll along the houses close to the rock, float across the turquoise-blue Hallstatt Lake in a boat, stop at the market square or visit the legendary ossuary. Hallstatt is only 15 minutes by car from our hotel!

Bad Ischl

Would you like an "Einspänner" Coffe, or would you prefer a "Großer Brauner"? Austria's coffee house culture can be experienced at its best in Bad Ischl, for example in the famous Zauner coffee house. But what do children love more than hot cocoa? Exactly, a ride on the Imperial Train and, of course, a horse-drawn carriage ride. And don't forget to visit the Imperial Villa!

St. Wolfgang
Lake Wolfgang is a must-see for every Salzkammergut holiday. The dreamy town of St.Wolfgang, the striking Schafberg and the idyllic lake are known far beyond Austria. The boat trip is particularly recommended in rainy weather, so you can enjoy a dreamlike scenery from inside the boat.
Bad Goisern

Not far from us is the village of Bad Goisern, which impresses with its charming city center. Stroll from the church to the market square and enjoy a coffee and delicious cake. Lovingly designed handicrafts can be purchased in the Hand.Werk.Haus shop and taken home as holiday souvenirs. Have you heard from the famous Goiserer shoe? Each shoe is measured and handmade, these shoes impress with a quality that you can hardly find anywhere else. If you want good shoes, you've come to the right place!

Salzburg

In addition to the "Haus der Natur" and the Toy Museum, Salzburg has a lot more to offer. Culture lovers visit the Mirabell Palace and discover the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Connoisseurs can enjoy the culinary offerings in Hangar 7 and marvel at the collection of historic Flying Bulls aircraft and Formula 1 racing cars. If you feel like shopping again, visit the outlet center and browse through the great offers. Even when it rains, Salzburg is worth a visit!

Nature express

Open the door and head off up the mountain, into the bathing lake or cycle to your destination!
