Travelling to Hallstatt
You can get to Hallstatt either by land or water: the boat trip from Hallstatt station to the opposite side of the lake from where you have the most beautiful view over Hallstatt is highly recommended. You cannot drive up to Hallstatt station but it can be reached by train or on foot. If you would like to drive by car via the west bank directly to Hallstatt, follow the parking guidance system.

Hallstatt World Heritage Museum

Hallstatt "Charnel House", parish church and cemetery
More than 1,200 skulls, with more than 600 of them artistically painted and sorted by families, are stored in the world-famous Hallstatt "Charnel House". Next to this, you can view the Late Gothic catholic parish church with its impressive winged altar and the cemetery set up on rock terraces all around it.
Hallstatt salt mine and salt mine railway
You can get from Hallstatt up into the Hallstatt high valley using the Panorama funicular railway where the oldest salt mine in the world is situated next to the famous prehistoric burial ground. From the top station there are numerous opportunities for hikes and walks, for example along the Brine Pipeline Trail that leads as far as Ebensee, up to the Plassen or on the World Heritage Trail.
