A holiday at Hotel Sommerhof in the spring
Sunny skiing and spring awakening
Spring in Gosau has two faces: Whilst the end of the ski season is the most beautiful time for sunny skiing and ski tours, the first hikers and bikers are already gathering in the Gosau valley in late spring. Besides outdoor activities, there are also numerous worthwhile excursion destinations during your holiday at Hotel Sommerhof in the spring.
Spring fun in the snow in the sunshine
The skiing seasons lasts until Easter or the start of April in Gosau. When spring's first rays of sunshine warm up the land, you enjoy snow that is great for skiing in the morning and enjoy the sun warming your face at a hut with a cool drink in the afternoon.
Ski tourers, winter and snowshoe hikers are also drawn out in the spring in particular to hike or go on a ski tour in pleasant temperatures. Tip: When the snow is already melting in the sunny spots you can still enjoy the snow wonderfully in shady and higher locations, for example behind Gosau Lake or on the Dachstein plateau.
Once the snow has melted …
Hotel Sommerhof opens its doors for the summer season in mid-May. You can now experience the awakening of nature and enjoy the warming sun on hikes and bike tours. Even in dull, wet weather nature develops its own unique appeal in spring: the air smells refreshing, a waft of mist floats about here and there and the falling raindrops produce a meditative sound. In keeping with the motto, "There's no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing", you can equip yourselves with umbrellas from reception to go with your weather-proof clothing and boots and you are ready to explore the region.
Visit the Daffodil Festival
The region comes into bloom around Austria's largest spring and flower festival, the Daffodil Festival, in Ausseerland at the end of May. Enjoy figures artistically made out of flowers and experience a piece of Salzkammergut tradition up close.
Excursions for good and bad weather
The many excursion destinations around Gosau are always worth a visit regardless of whether it's good or bad weather. How about a trip to one of the caves on the Dachstein? You can walk in both the Giant Ice Cave and Mammoth Cave and the Koppenbrüller Cavern from the spring through to the autumnin any weather. You can also reach Salzburg, which impresses with its picturesque old town and sights, in about an hour. The Imperial town of Bad Ischl, which is even more beautiful since the redesigns on the occasion of the 2015 State Garden Show, is also not far away. A visit to Hallstatt UNESCO World Heritage Site and the show mine is also worth it in the spring.
