Nature can be enjoyed in its full glory and in total peace when winter hiking and snowshoe hiking in Salzkammergut. Whether it's as an alternative to the ski slopes or for a day trip in between, hiking in snow requires practically no special requirements and is ideal for families too.

Winter hiking

Numerous cleared winter hiking trails invite you to explore the snow-covered landscape in a sedate way. One of the most popular trails leads along the Gosau brook from Vordertal to Hintertal.

Snowshoe hikes

Snowshoes, which are simply strapped onto hiking boots, allow you to leave the cleared paths and stamp out into the countryside. Untouched nature, silent fields of snow and tucked away viewing points are revealed to the keen snowshoe hiker – a priceless winter adventure. At the end of a tour take a break at one of the rustic mountain inns and enjoy the local speciality sweet Kaiserschmarrn and a hot tea and you will be totally happy.

Snowshoe hire and guided snowshoe hikes

If you don't have any snowshoes with you, you can hire some at the Gosau ski hire shop. A guided snowshoe hike is recommended for beginners' first outing: a hiking guide is available for you on request.

We have put together some suggestions for your snowshoe hikes around Gosau, if you want to set off on your own:

  • From the Hornspitz lift's middle station to the top station
  • Up to the Zwieselalm
  • Various hiking options on the Dachstein plateau, e.g. to the 5fingers viewing platform
  • To Hütteneck in Bad Goisern
